The Energy sector in Pakistan faces a multitude of challenges, and also presents significant and large opportunities for investment and growth. Given the criticality of the sector to every area of the economy as well as the impact on the everyday lives of the people, it is imperative that all sectors of the Energy industry understand each other’s challenges and opportunities, and how they can work together, and with the GOP, to address these issues and help grow the economy.
This includes not only the institutions directly engaged in the Energy sector, but also those institutions who are equal but indirect partners and users, like Financial Institutions, Large Scale Manufacturing, Transportation, Fertilizer, Cement, Telecom etc.
The Pakistan Energy Conference is an annual event organized by the Petroleum Institute of Pakistan, that provides a platform for Energy and associated sector organizations to come together, highlight their challenges and opportunities, and use the combined knowledge and expertise of the industry to build collaboration networks, brainstorm ideas, and develop solutions.
Energy Sector
The energy sector in Pakistan is at a critical juncture, facing significant challenges in ensuring stable, sustainable, and affordable energy. With a growing GDP, the demand for energy is rising sharply. Projections suggest a surge in energy demand (measured in Millions of Tons of Oil Equivalent – MMTOE) from 115 mmtoe to 434 mmtoe by 2046, while supply is only expected to increase from 96 mmtoe to 305 mmtoe, indicating a very large potential shortfall of over 129 mmtoe.
